The German International Abitur
The overall qualification, on the basis of which the general higher education entrance qualification is awarded, results from the performance in the four semesters of the qualification phase and from the performance shown in the Abitur examination; it consists of the sub-qualification Q in the area of teaching performance in the qualification phase and the sub-qualification A in the Abitur area with the performance in the Abitur examination.
Registration for the DIA
Each student registers for the baccalaureate examination at the beginning of the first semester of grade 12 on the date set by the school by submitting a registration form. The registration form must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae outlining the student's educational background. With this registration, students must make an important decision, namely the choice of the three written and the two oral examination subjects. The following framework applies:
The times for the written examination papers are 270 minutes each in the subjects German, English, French and mathematics, three time hours in the subjects history, geography, biology, chemistry and physics. In subjects in which the examinees select an examination task to work on, the working time is extended by 15 minutes.
The examination in the fourth examination subject is taken as a subject examination, the examination in the fifth examination subject is taken as a presentation examination or as an argument. A special learning achievement (e.g. a competition entry for "Jugend forscht") can replace the examination in this subject.
Each candidate takes at least one oral examination and one written examination in German. Foreign language portions may total up to 50%.
Admission to the Abitur examination takes place in two stages: After completion of the first semester of grade 12, the partial qualification Q is calculated by including best possible results in the second semester of grade 12. Those who meet all the conditions are admitted to the written baccalaureate examination.
After the completion of classes in grade 12, the partial qualification Q is determined, and also the partial qualification A is calculated with the inclusion of best possible results in the oral examinations. Those who meet all the conditions are admitted to the oral baccalaureate examination.
Those who have not been admitted to the written examination may repeat the second semester of grade 11 and the first semester of grade 12, provided that the maximum length of stay in the upper school of 4 years is not exceeded.
Those who have not been admitted to the oral examination may repeat the two semesters of grade 12, provided that the maximum retention period in the upper school of 4 years is not exceeded.
The Q subqualification
According to the overview, a total of 36 out of at least 40 half-year results must be included in the Q partial qualification.
If performance is contributed in a subject from the areas of foreign languages or natural sciences, the results from at least two half-years are to be credited.
The sub-qualification Q is fulfilled if
the performance in none of the 36 half-years to be brought in was assessed with zero points,
the performance in at least 29 of the 36 half-years to be entered was assessed with at least 05 points, and
the sum of points of the performances of the 36 half-years to be entered amounts to at least 180.
The partial qualification A
Subqualification A consists of the results of the baccalaureate examinations of the five examination subjects.
The subqualification A is fulfilled if
an examination result of at least 05 points has been achieved in at least three examination subjects, including at least one subject from the group of subjects German, Mathematics and English, and
the sum of points of the five examination results is at least 25.
The composition of the Abitur grade
Area Q:
Score π π = point sum of the 36 half-year results brought in β 40
36
Scores are rounded to whole numbers.
Area A:
Score π ππ = Point total of the 5 examination results β 4.
Result of the overall qualification:
π = π π + π ππ.
A prerequisite for the award of the General Higher Education Entrance Qualification is that at least 300 points have been achieved in the overall qualification π, namely as a result π π at least 200 points and as a result π ππ at least 100 points. Balancing between the two partial qualifications is not possible.
Certificate of general qualification for university entrance and average grade.
In addition to the scores included in the overall qualification, the certificate also shows all other achievements made during the qualification phase. These only serve as proof of the occupancy. Furthermore, subjects that were completed at the end of the 10th year and were not continued in the qualification phase can also be included in the certificate upon request. These are listed, but have no influence on the average grade. Subjects taught bilingually are shown.
Repeating parts of the upper school and length of stay
The length of stay in the gymnasiale Oberstufe is at least two, at most four years; a repetition in the qualification phase is only possible at the end of a school semester.
A student who, in the course of the qualification phase, is found to be ineligible for admission to the Abitur examination shall withdraw by one full grade, provided that the maximum length of stay in the gymnasiale Oberstufe is not exceeded by this repetition.
In the case of withdrawal after the first semester of the qualification phase, there is no longer a need for authorization to transfer to the qualification phase.
In the case of a failed Abitur examination, the retention period may be exceeded by the period of one year required for the repetition.
Students who do not report for the examination after three and a half years of attendance of the gymnasiale Oberstufe (including the introductory phase) or who have not fulfilled the admission requirements within this period must leave the school.
In case a student repeats semesters, only the results achieved during this period will be included in the overall qualification.
